1.   The Spartans cap their two-game homestand to start the 2017 season with intra-state foe William & Mary this Saturday.
2.   The Spartans are coming off a season-opening 14-10 loss to Virginia State last Saturday in the ABNB Labor Day Classic at Dick Price Stadium.
3.   NSU was held without an offensive touchdown by VSU. The Spartans' lone touchdown came on
Nigel Chavis' second-quarter fumble recovery in the end zone.
4.   The Spartans were outgained by VSU 275-214 in total offense, including a 190-98 deficit in rushing yardage.
5.   The Spartans had seven players start their first career game in the season-opener last week, including five on offense. Twenty players saw their first collegiate action in the game, including 16 freshmen (12 true freshmen, four redshirt freshmen).
6.   This week's game marks the seventh all-time matchup between NSU and William & Mary, and fifth in the last decade. It will be just the second meeting in Norfolk between the teams, and first since 2009.
7.   NSU is 1-13-1 all-time against teams currently in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Spartans are 1-2-1 against Elon, but a combined 0-11 against William & Mary (0-6), Maine (0-2), Villanova (0-1), Richmond (0-1) and Towson (0-1).
8.   William & Mary opened the season with a 28-10 loss at the University of Virginia last Saturday in Charlottesville. The Tribe cut a 21-3 deficit to 21-10 midway through the fourth quarter, but a late turnover thwarted its attempt at a rally.
9.   The Tribe was held to 240 yards of total offense, but did outgain the Cavaliers by 34 yards in the second half with first-time quarterback Tommy McKee at the controls.
10.   William & Mary was picked to finish seventh in the Colonial Athletic Association preseason poll of head coaches and sports information directors. Wide receiver DeVonte Dedmon and offensive lineman Chris Durant were named to the preseason All-CAA team, with Durant also earning preseason FCS All-America recognition.
