Milton, Sprinters Fare Well for NSU Men at Great Dane Classic

STATE ISLAND, N.Y. – Sophomore high jumper Jacob Milton continued his strong start to the indoor track and field season, clearing 7 feet for the second straight meet and placing third overall as the Spartans resumed their season Saturday at the Great Dane Classic hosted by the University at Albany.

In NSU's first meet in more than a month, Milton cleared 7 feet, 0.25 inches. He was the highest collegiate finisher in a meet which also included many professional and post-collegiate athletes.

Fellow sophomore Garth Warner also finished in the top 10 in the high jump at Albany, clearing 6-6.25 to tie for 10th place.

On the track, the Spartans got several standout performances from their sprinters. The 4x400 relay team of Trequan Barnes, Justin Pinder, Tyson Robinson and Phil Griggs posted the Spartans' best time of the season to date, placing third in 3 minutes, 18.95 seconds.

Barnes and Pinder also fared well in the 500-meter dash. Barnes took third in 1:05.36, with Pinder close behind in eighth in 1:05.66.

In the 60-meter dash, senior Jaylen Carr clocked a PR of 6.87 seconds in the prelims of the invitational section. He placed eighth in the finals. Sophomore Kyshawn Bonner ran in the open 60 meters and finished as runner-up in 7.09.

The Spartans are back in action this Friday and Saturday at the Keydet Invitational hosted by Virginia Military Institute in Lexington.
