Meet Results

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. –
Sophomore Martha Bissah claimed victory in the 1,000 meters and was the top collegiate finisher in the mile run to pace the Spartan women's track and field team in its first meet of the New Year Saturday, the Great Dane Classic hosted by the University at Albany.

Bissah clocked a time of 2 minutes, 51.28 seconds in the 1,000 meters, just edging out runner-up Madison Clarke of Ottawa University. Bissah then broke the 5-minute mark in the mile for the first time this indoor season with a time of 4:59.60. She placed third overall in the mile behind two professional athletes as the Spartans returned from a four-week hiatus for the semester break and a snowstorm-induced week off last weekend.

Junior Tyrika Lee and freshman Malika Pride led NSU in the sprints Saturday. Lee finished eighth in the both the 60 (7.78 finals after 7.66 in the prelims) and 200-meter races (24.94). Pride registered a seventh-place showing in the 500 meters, finishing in 1:16.91.

Pride and Bissah also comprised half of the Spartans' third-place 4x400 meter relay team, which posted NSU's top time of the year so far (3:54.55). Chazmin Fullwood and Crystal Green also ran legs on the relay squad.

Freshman Ayana Dozier had NSU's best finish in the field events. She set a new PR in the triple jump with a best effort of 38 feet, 11.75 inches, good for fourth place.

The Spartans return to action this weekend in Lexington, Va., at the VMI Keydet Invitational.
