NSU Women Claim Seven Top-5 Finishes at VMI

Meet Results

LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore Martha Bissah continued her winning ways with another victory in the 1,000 meters, one of seven top-five finishes for the NSU women's track and field team at the VMI Keydet Invitational this past weekend.

Bissah won the 1,000 for the second straight meet and now has a race victory in all three meets for NSU this indoor season. She clocked a time of 2 minutes, 50.36 seconds in her 1,000m win, more than three seconds ahead of her closest competition. She also won the 1,000m at Albany last weekend.

Bissah had a hand in three of the Spartans' seven top-five finishes. She was the runner-up in the 400 in 56.74 seconds, the fastest quarter-mile time for the Spartans this season. Bissah was one of three Spartans who placed in the top five in the 400m, with freshman Malika Pride coming in fourth (57.67) and junior Chazmin Fullwood fifth (57.80).

That trio teamed with junior Crystal Green to form NSU's fourth-place 4x400 relay team, which crossed the line in 3:52.11.

Junior Taejah Robertson made her season debut in the 60-meter hurdles at VMI and didn't disappoint. Robertson finished third in a time of 8.61 seconds, just .01 off her PR set last year at the MEAC Championships.

Sophomore Ashah Koech was one Spartan who succeeded in breaking her previous PR. Koech claimed 10th place in the 5,000 meters in 19:07.58, which also ranks as the top time by a Spartan this season.

Freshman Ayana Dozier led the Spartan field athletes with another strong showing in the triple jump. Her top jump went 37 feet, 11.25 inches, good for fifth place. Tasia Baxter also showed well in the pole vault with a top height of 10-4, which was good for 14th place.

The Spartans compete this Friday and Saturday at the Penn State National.
