WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Norfolk State volleyball team saw its 2018 season come to a close in a 3-0 loss at Howard on Friday night in a MEAC match at Burr Gymnasium.
The Spartans fell by scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-19 to end their campaign at 4-17 overall, 3-7 in the MEAC.
Howard, the Northern Division leader, improved to 17-10 overall and 9-1 in the league.
NSU got stronger as the match wore on. But early on, the Bison were up 13-4 before the Spartans won four of the next five points. Howard later won four in a row and then the last six points of the set for the early lead.
In the second set, the Bison jumped out to a 7-1 lead and were up by nine at 15-6 before NSU went on a run. The Spartans scored six in a row to slice Howard's lead to 15-12, but HU pulled away from there.
NSU led 8-7 early in the third set and then again at 10-9 after a kill from freshman
Kyra Walden. But the Bison won seven in a row and later five of the last seven points of the match.
Jurnee Tipton led Howard with 18 kills, and the Bison hit .368 for the match.
