LYNCHBURG, Va. – Trequan Barnes sprinted to victory in the 200 meters and the high jump duo of
Garth Warner and
Jacob Milton both cleared 7 feet for the Spartan men's track and field team over the weekend at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational hosted by Liberty University.
Barnes posted a winning time of 21.71 seconds, an indoor PR for the freshman. It was his first event victory of indoor season.
Warner, a sophomore, cleared 7 feet for the first time. He placed second with a top height of 7-0.25. His teammate and classmate Milton also cleared 7-0.25, but finished third due to more misses. Fellow sophomore
Kequan Henley gave NSU three top-10 finishers in the event Saturday, placing seventh (6-4.25).
Marcus Taylor registered NSU's other top-10 finish in the field with a ninth-place showing in the long jump (22-0.25).
Elsewhere on the track, junior
Justin Pinder and freshman
Keith Brown ran personal-bests in their respective events. Brown clocked a 6.84 in the semifinals of the 60 meters, then placed third in the finals in 6.90. Pinder ran an indoor PR of 49.27 seconds in his fifth-place finish in the 400 meters.
Tyson Robinson and
Anteneh Girma also ran well, winning their heats in the 800 and mile, respectively. Robinson finished sixth overall in the 800 in 1:55.07 and Girma placed 10th in the mile (4:24.51).
The Spartans' next meet is this Friday and Saturday at VMI, NSU's final competition before the MEAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 15-17.
