ORLANDO, Fla. – Norfolk State men's tennis suffered its second setback in as many matches on Wednesday, falling 4-0 to James Madison at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
 
The Spartans' (3-2) lone victory came in the third-seeded doubles flight. 
Vini Da Silva and 
Ignacio Guevel combined to sweep the pairing of Gonzalo Adis Freer and Tate Steinour, 6-0.
 
The Dukes (12-2) won the final two doubles matches to secure the point. Theophile Lanthiez and Paul Mendoza downed 
Andres Alcaraz and 
Dan Dumitrascu, 6-2, in the top-seeded flight. Alvaro Arce Garcia and Pierre Kohler then defeated 
Flavian Fernandez and 
Agustin Carrizo, 6-2, to wrap up doubles play.
 
JMU won the first three singles points to conclude the match early. Mendoza defeated Alcaraz in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, in the top-seeded match. Damon Roberts then won in the third-seeded flight, 6-1, 6-3, over Dumitrascu. Kohler clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Fernandez in the No. 4-seeded flight.
 
The Spartans trailed in all three unfinished matches. At No. 2-seeded singles, Arce Garcia won the first set, 6-3, and was up 2-1 on Da Silva when play halted.
 
Adis Freer bested Carrizo, 6-2, in the first set at No. 5-seeded singles, but the second set was knotted at 3-3. Likewise, the sixth-seeded flight was tied in the second set. Lanthiez won the opening set over Guvel, 6-3, but the second set was even at 4-4.
 
Norfolk State plays John Carroll on Friday to wrap up its Florida trip. The Spartans return home to host UC Riverside on March 28 at 3 p.m.
