VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Norfolk State women's tennis dropped its MEAC Northern Division contest to Morgan State, 6-1 on Sunday at the Virginia Beach Tennis & Country Club.
 
The Spartans (2-9, 1-3) were swept in doubles action to fall behind 1-0.
 
At No. 3 doubles, Dana Santiago and Oriane Yehouenou downed 
Tyrika Lee and 
Nena Greenhouse, 6-0. Peggy Rooke and Danielle Thompson then secured the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over 
Dajana Cvjetkovic and 
Paula Fortuno in the top-seeded flight.
 
The No. 2-seeded doubles match went unfinished with Alexus Gill and Asmara Faluke leading 
Ana Popovic and 
Bruna Goncalves 5-1.
 
The Lady Bears (8-12, 4-1) took the first three singles matches to secure the victory.
 
Thompson swept Cvjetkovic, 6-3, 6-3, on the first court to start singles play. Santiago continued the rally with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Goncalves on the fourth court.
 
Yehouenou clinched the victory with a straight-sets win in the sixth-seeded match, defeating Lee 6-0, 6-0.
 
With the match decided, Rooke took the third-seeded flight over Popovic, 7-5, 6-4. Faluke then earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Greenhouse on the sixth court.
 
Fortuno gave the Spartans a point in the final match of the evening, defeating Gill in three sets. Fortuno fell behind 6-4 in the first set before bouncing back with 6-3, 7-5 wins in the last two sets.
 
NSU continues its push for the MEAC Tournament tomorrow with an 11 a.m. match against Coppin State. Prior to the match, seniors Cvjetkovic and Popovic will be honored for their contributions to the women's tennis program.
