NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State women's tennis honored its senior leaders
Dajana Cvjetkovic and
Ana Popovic in a big way on Monday, sweeping Coppin State 4-0 on Senior Day at the NSU Tennis Complex.

The win vaults the Spartans (3-9, 2-3 MEAC) into fourth place in the Northern Division and allows NSU to control its postseason destiny.

The shorthanded Eagles (3-10, 1-4) defaulted at No. 3 doubles, and the Spartans capitalized by taking the first contested doubles flight to clinch the point.

Popovic and
Bruna Goncalves combined to defeat Ajla Hrnjic and Precious Udofe 6-2 on the second court. Cvjetkovic and
Paula Fortuno were one game away from winning at top-seeded doubles, but the match went unfinished with the duo leading 5-2.

Another CSU default at No. 6 doubles brought NSU to within two points of victory, and the seniors combined to clinch to match for the Spartans.

Popovic opened singles play with a clean 6-0, 6-0 win against Udofe at No. 3 singles. Cvjetkovic then ended the match on the first court, besting Tinashe Gwaze 6-1, 6-0.

Fortuno led in the second set of her match at second-seeded singles. The sophomore took the first set against Brittanie Cahua 6-1 and was up 3-2 in the second set when the match ended.

The Spartans wrap up the regular season on Wednesday with a makeup game against Maryland Eastern Shore at 2 p.m. A win clinches the fourth seed in the Northern Division and sends NSU to the MEAC Tournament.
