RICHMOND, Va. – Keith Brown and
Garth Warner brought home victories in the 100 meters and high jump, respectively, to highlight the weekend for the Norfolk State men's track and field team at the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond.
Brown clocked a time of 10.71 seconds in his first 100m of his freshman season. Brown also placed fifth in the 200 meters as well, running a time of 22.08 seconds. Warner, meanwhile, cleared 6-9 to win the high jump. Â
Sophomore
Festus Bett also won his event, taking first in an all-NSU 10,000-meter race. Bett crossed the line in 33 minutes, 00.61 seconds to give NSU its third individual win of the weekend.
To close the meet, NSU's 4x400 meter relay team also raced to victory. The quartet of
Jaylen Banks,
Trequan Barnes, Phil Griggs and
Justin Pinder clocked a time of 3 minutes, 16.17 seconds to edge second-place La Salle.Â
Barnes, Banks and Pinder also recorded top-five finishes in individual events. Barnes was runner-up in the 200 (21.79), Banks was runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles (season-best 53.08) and Pinder placed third in the 400 meters (48.59).
In distance events,
Anteneh Girma clocked the second-best 5,000-meter time in the MEAC this year with his 15:06.44. That earned the junior fourth place.
In other field events,
Jacob Milton was runner-up in the javelin throw (140 feet, 6 inches) and
Zaire Barnes placed fourth in the shot put (43-8.5).
The Spartans are back in action this Friday and Saturday at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg.
