NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State volleyball team will return home from its opening weekend to face former MEAC rival Hampton on Tuesday night. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Gill Gymnasium in a non-conference matchup.

The Spartans started the season 0-4 at the Georgetown Classic over the weekend, falling to Georgetown and UNCW on Friday and Penn and George Mason on Saturday. Hampton, meanwhile, owns a 2-4 record after winning matches against New Orleans and East Carolina last weekend while also losing to host Tennessee Tech.
HU also dropped three matches at Morehead State on the opening weekend, Aug. 24-25, against Bradley, Saint Francis Brooklyn and host MSU.
After Tuesday, the Spartans will have eight more matches over the course of three weekends before beginning MEAC play in late September.
Debut
Junior
Bojana Bolozan had a solid debut with the Spartans after transferring from Odessa College. In 12 sets, she had eight service aces and 10 blocks, both tops on the team. She also had the second-most kills on the weekend with 16, second only to her former Odessa teammate
Anna Rupertova (19).
Bolozan finds herself first in the MEAC in service aces per set at 0.67. She also ranks sixth in blocks (0.83). Another of her former Odessa teammates, junior setter
Halley McKnight, had four service aces in nine sets over the weekend (0.44) to rank seventh in the league. The Spartans stand fifth in the league in service aces per set (1.50), by far their best category in the early part of the year.
New Faces
Along with Bolozan, McKnight and Rupertova also made their NSU debuts last weekend, although Rupertova was with NSU last year but missed the entire season due to injury. McKnight had 24 assists to lead all players, while Rupertova also tied for the team lead with 19 digs. Freshman

The Lady Pirates found a new offensive weapon with the move to the Big South. Megann Delgado, a transfer from Cal State Fullerton, leads all players with 3.26 kills per set while hitting .201. She also has a team-high 11 service aces. On the other side, however, Hampton has given up 2.30 service aces per set to the opposition.
Aside from Delgado, four other players have averaged between 1.50 and 1.70 kills per set. Lena Washington (1.70) ranks second on the team, and she is followed by Victoria Jenifer (1.65), Sasha Saric (1.61) and Kyndall Nicholas (1.57). Nicholas also has the team lead with 0.91 blocks per set, with Saric second with 0.57.
Washington also tallied 2.57 digs, second on the team to Maja Petronijevic at 3.22. Nicholas, Washington and Petronijevic are all seniors.

The Spartans will travel up the road to Williamsburg to take part in the Colonial Classic this weekend hosted by William & Mary. There, they will face Eastern Michigan on Friday and then Savannah State and the host Tribe on Saturday.
