WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Eastern Michigan hit better than .400 on the way to a 3-0 win over the Norfolk State volleyball team on Friday afternoon at the Colonial Classic hosted by William & Mary.
The Eagles won by scores of 25-9, 25-5 and 25-11 at Kaplan Arena on the first day of the tournament. Jordan Smith played a big part in the win, hitting 17 kills on a .652 attack percentage. No other player had more than six kills for the Eagles.
NSU fell to 0-6 on the year. Junior
Anna Rupertova had four kills to lead the Spartans, while sophomore
Taylor Eichelberger and freshman
Brenna Ankrum each tallied seven digs.
Alyssa Laface added 20 digs to lead EMU (6-3), which tallied 43 kills while hitting .430 as a team. The squads also combined for just three blocks.
Norfolk State will play Savannah State on Saturday afternoon and then host William & Mary in the evening to wrap up the tournament
