UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Sophomore
Kiara Grant and junior
Martha Bissah both smashed their previous personal records in impressive showings at the Penn State National Open on Saturday.
Grant won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.37 seconds, nearly one second ahead of her previous PR of 25.36 from the Virginia Tech Invitational earlier this month. Her time is also the third-fastest time in the MEAC this year.
Bissah placed second in the 800 meters with a new indoor PR of 2:04.27. It was Bissah's first 800m race of the season and she made the most of it, running the fourth-fastest time in the nation so far this indoor season.
Two other Spartans also registered their best performances of the season. Senior
Taejah Robertson ran a season-best 8.63 seconds in a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles on Friday. Sophomore
Malika Pride clocked a time of 56.93 seconds in Saturday's invitational section of the 400 meters, which was also her top time of the year to date.
The Spartans are back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Liberty Elite Invitational.
