NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State University Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR)
Dr. Carray Banks has been named the 2019 NCAA Division I FAR of the Year in the honor's inaugural awarding.
Dr. Banks will be formally recognized during a reception and awards dinner at the Faculty Athletics Representatives Association (FARA) Annual Meeting & Symposium in Bellevue, Washington, on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.

Dr. Carray Banks on this recognition," Dr. Dennis E. Thomas, MEAC Commissioner, said. "His service to Norfolk State University and to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference has been exemplary, and he is deserving of this honor."
Dr. Banks is in his 28th year at Norfolk State, and his 12th as the FAR, where he represents the institution and its faculty in relationships with the NCAA and MEAC. An associate professor in NSU's Department of Technology, Banks is the faculty's voice and influence regarding intercollegiate athletics at Norfolk State.
He is a current member of the NCAA Division I Legislation Committee. Dr. Banks is also a former member of the NCAA Division I Committee on Academics, the NCAA Division I Academic Executive Council, the HBCU and LRI Advisory Executive group, the Accelerating Academic Success Program Grant Selection Committee (AASP), the Academic Progress Rate (APR) Data Review Sub-committee, and the NCAA Two-Year Transfer Working Group.
Dr. Banks has represented Norfolk State on numerous committees with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference as well. He is a former President of the MEAC, and he helped charter the MEAC APR award. He was also a member of the MEAC Executive Council and the MEAC Basketball Tournament Committee.
