Spartans Finish Non-Conference Slate at Richmond

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Spartans have had 10 days during Christmas break to prepare for their last non-conference game against the Richmond Spiders at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the Robins Center.
 
Series History vs. Richmond
  • This will be the first matchup ever between these two teams.
 
A Win over Richmond Would...
  • Snap a three-game losing streak for NSU. 
  • Put the Spartans back to one game over .500%. 

Scouting The Spiders
  • The Spiders don't have one prolific scorer, but a balanced roster with eight players scoring at least five points per game.
  • Expect the Spiders to move the ball around, with four players with at least 30 assists and another three with 15 assists so far this season.
  • Kate Klimkiewicz leads UR with 11.3 points per game, while shooting 45% from the floor.
  • Jaide Hinds-Clarke leads the Spiders on the boards, with 5.5 rebounds per game. She is second on the team in scoring with 9.8 points per game.
  • Alex Parson leads UR with 2.7 assists per game.
  • The Spiders are currently on a four-game skid,  with their last win coming against UMES on Dec. 5. Their latest game was a close 69-65 loss to Hampton, a team the Spartans defeated 77-56 on Dec. 7.
Heading Into the Next Decade
  • NSU has greatly improved in the latter part of the decade since head Coach Larry Vickers has taken over, and looks to continue their momentum. The Spartans have had a winning record the past three seasons, and made it to the MEAC Championship game last season.

Snapping the Skid
  • The Spartans are looking to snap a three-game skid, with losses to #19 West Virginia, Robert Morris and William & Mary. NSU's last win came on Dec. 7 at Hampton.
 
The Starting Five 
  • Chanette Hicks leads the Spartans with 21.3 points per game, also leading the MEAC in that category. Hicks also ranks 9th nationally in points per game. She's had eight 20 point games, and has at least 10 points in all 12 games so far this season.
  • Armani Franklin has started the last four games, making a difference on both sides of the floor. Franklin has averaged 7.3 points in games she's started, and is second on the team with two steals per game.
  • La'Deja James is second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.3 points per game. James is also second on the team with 2.6 assists per game, and third with 4.9 rebounds per game.
  • Blaire Thomas had her fourth double-figure game of the season against William & Mary, finishing with 13 points and eight rebounds. She leads the team with 6.1 rebounds per game, which ranks 12th in the MEAC.
  • Mikaela Jones rounds out the Spartan starting five, averaging 5.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. She leads the team with 1.3 blocks per game

NSU By the Numbers
  •  21.3- The amount of points Chanette Hicks averages per game. Ranks first in the MEAC, and ninth nationally in points per game.
  • 12.8 - The number of steals the Spartans are averaging per game, which ranks first in the MEAC and 10th in Division I.
  • +7.42 NSU's turnover margin so far this season, which ranks first in the MEAC and 14th in the country.
  • 4.83 - The number of steals Chanette Hicks averages per game, ranking first in the conference and second in the country.
  • 65.9 - The average number of points the Spartans' offense has scored per game, which ranks third in the MEAC.
