NORFOLK, Va. -- Norfolk State redshirt senior guard Chanette Hicks was named the MEAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, her third straight week earning the award. Hicks was also named Defensive Player of the Week, the second time she's earned the award in the past three weeks.

Hicks continues to pace the Spartans in scoring, with a career-high 30 points in her last outing against Jacksonville. Hicks leads the team averaging 21.1 points per game, also leading the MEAC in that category. Hicks is now ranked 11th nationally in points per game.

Hicks also leads the nation with 5.6 steals per game, and is currently second in the NCAA active career leaders with 327 career steals. She padded her stats with 17 steals in the last two games at the JU Thanksgiving Classic. As a team, the Spartans rank third nationally averaging 14.9 steals per game.

Hicks is one of four players in the country to have more than 10 steals in a game, and she's done it twice already this season. She is also one of seven players to record a triple-double this season, with 20 points, 14 assists, and 11 steals against Va. Lynchburg on Nov. 14.

The Spartans return to Echols Hall to face the Longwood Lancers on Thursday for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
