NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Junior
Lelei Too brought home a victory in the 3,000 meters to highlight the opening weekend of indoor track and field season for the Spartan men on Sunday at the CNU Holiday Open.
In a meet in which NSU only had distance runners compete, Too led four Spartans who finished in the top six in the 3,000. He posted a winning time of 8 minutes, 40.98 seconds, less than one second off his personal best.
Meshack Kipchirchir was third in 8:41.88,
Evans Cheruiyot placed fourth in 8:43.57 and
Zaid Abdul-Kaudeyr was sixth in 9:48.48.
NSU also had three runners place in the top seven of the mile run. Freshman
Je'Shawn Walker took fourth in 4:34.25, while sophomore
Kamil Jihad was seventh in 4:35.83 and freshman
Taejon Morris was eighth in 4:35.88.
NSU is now off for the remainder of the semester and holiday break. Indoor season resumes for the Spartans with the Father Diamond Invitational hosted by George Mason University on Jan. 4.
