WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Two event victories and a trio of MEAC-leading 10,000 meter times highlighted the NSU men's track and field team's efforts over the weekend at the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William & Mary.
The Spartans won the 1,600 meter sprint medley relay in dramatic fashion. The team of
Trequan Barnes, Joseph Kemp,
Justin Pinder and
Lelei Too finished in a time of 3 minutes, 28.78 seconds, .01 ahead of the runner-up team from Hampton. Too overtook his competition on the final lap of the 800-meter anchor leg and held off the Pirates at the finish line.
Junior
Jacob Milton also earned a first-place finish, battling rainy weather to win the invitational section of the high jump with a top height of 6 feet, 9.5 inches. It marked Milton's third straight Colonial Relays high jump title.
Teammate
Garth Warner placed in the high jump with a clearance of 6-5.5.
The Spartan distance runners also ran the 10,000 meters for the first time this outdoor season at the meet. All they did was post the three fastest times in the MEAC so far this year.
Evans Cheruiyot finished fourth in the race with a time of 30:14.01, tops in the conference.
Meshack Kipchirchir was 10th overall in 30:42.58, and senior
Anteneh Girma placed 17th out of the 47-man field in 30:56.98.
The Spartans capped the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay. Barnes, Pinder, Kemp and
Keith Brown turned in a time of 3:14.80.
The Spartans are back in action this Friday and Saturday at the Charlotte Invitational.
