Milton, Grant Wrap up Busy Week for NSU at NCAA East Prelims

| By:
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacob Milton and Kiara Grant capped a busy weekend for the Norfolk State track and field teams at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Saturday evening at the University of North Florida.

Milton, a junior, finished 27th in the high jump out of 48 competitors. He cleared a top height of 6 feet, 11 inches. Milton, a six-time MEAC high jump champion, was making his third straight NCAA East Prelims appearance.

Grant, a sophomore sprinter, competed in the quarterfinals of the women's 200-meter dash. She set a new personal record for the second straight night, posting a time of 23.17 seconds. She placed fifth in her heat and 15th out of the 24 quarterfinalists, falling just .07 shy of advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in a second event.

Friday, Grant placed sixth in the 100-meter dash to earn her first-ever bid to the NCAA outdoor national meet. Grant will be the first Spartan female to compete at a Division I outdoor championship in the 100 meters.

In addition, Martha Bissah will compete at her third straight national championship next month, and second consecutive outdoor nationals, in the 800 meters. This year marks the first time in the Spartans' Division I era that two female athletes have qualified for the same NCAA track and field championship meet.

The 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships run June 5-8 at the University of Texas.
