Hampton Wins Round 2 over NSU, 3-0

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State volleyball team fell in the Battle of the Bay for the second straight day, as Hampton earned a 3-0 win over the Spartans on Saturday afternoon at Gill Gymnasium.

The Pirates hit .418 for the match on the way to a 25-18, 25-13, 25-10 sweep. NSU dropped to 0-2 on the season and was led by senior Anna Rupertova on Saturday with five kills on 12 swings.

Hampton needed an 8-1 run to pull ahead in the first set. The Spartans led 13-12 after a service ace from freshman Myleah Carter. They still held the advantage at 15-14 following back-to-back HU errors before the Pirates went on their big run.

HU also closed the second set on a 10-2 run after the Spartans had gotten to within four on a kill from junior Taylor Eichelberger. The end of the third set resulted in a 10-1 run for the Pirates as well.

Carter had a team-high seven digs. Sophomore Makenzy Johnson added 17 assists on NSU's 19 kills.

HU (2-0) held advantages in service aces (9-2) and blocks (7-1). Sasha Saric led the way with 13 kills and five blocks while hitting .632. Clara Smith added eight kills, and Genevieve Reynolds totaled five blocks.

NSU will be on the road next weekend at the Radford Tournament, taking on Fordham, Rider and Toledo on Friday and Saturday.
