EARLYSVILLE, Va. – Sophomore
Meshack Kipchirchir notched a top-30 finish to lead the Norfolk State men's cross country in its season-opening meet at the Cavalier Classic at the University of Virginia Saturday morning.
Kipchirchir finished the 8,000-meter Panorama Farms course in 25 minutes, 27.5 seconds to place 29th against a field of teams that included U.Va., Duke Tennessee and North Carolina. The Spartans placed fifth in the team standings.
Freshman
Evans Cheruiyot was NSU's next-highest finisher, placing 35th in 25:41.5. Senior
Anteneh Girma took 43rd place in 26:07.9. Sophomore
Lelei Too finished 47th in 26:43.1, and freshman
Taejon Morris was 48th in 29:35.5.
The Spartans have a week off before returning to the same course for the Panorama Farms Invitational on Sept. 27.
