NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State bowling team will look to surprise the MEAC this year after the Spartans were picked to finish 10
th in the league. The conference office released the 2020-21 preseason honors on Thursday.
NSU finished with 56 points in the voting, ahead of No. 11 Bethune-Cookman with 38 points in the 11-team league. Voting was done by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
Morgan State, with 80 points, finished ahead of NSU in ninth. Maryland Eastern Shore, meanwhile, received 15 first-place votes and 229 points and found itself atop the preseason poll. North Carolina A&T was close behind with 220 points and four first-place votes with Delaware State third at 191 points.
For the second year in a row, the top two teams in the poll also had four of the five players named preseason All-MEAC. Cameron Strombeck of North Carolina A&T was voted the preseason player of the year, and she was joined on the preseason team by teammate Ericka Quesada. MDES had a pair of bowlers on the team in Brooke Roberts and Chloe Skurzynski, and Monmouth's Saige Yamada rounded out the five preseason All-MEAC honorees.
NSU will announce its 2020-21 schedule at a later date. The Spartans return six bowlers from last year's team.
