LYNCHBURG, Va. – Kiara Grant and
Martha Bissah combined for three wins and both set multiple records over the weekend at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational hosted by Liberty University.
For her second straight meet, Grant won both the 60 and 200-meter dash events. She set new facility and meet records in her win in the 60 meters, clocking a time of 7.30 seconds in the final. Grant also posted a time of 23.77 seconds in the 200 meters, which established a new meet record. Grant now has 200m titles at three indoor events already this season, including two weeks ago at Penn State where she also pulled the 60-200 double.
Grant was one of three Spartans who finished in the top four in the 200 meters at Liberty.
DaJah Parker-Love was third in 24.30 seconds, and
Malika Pride finished fourth in 24.40.
Parker-Love also was third in the 60 meters. She ran a time of 7.50 in the prelims, and 7.56 in the final.
Bissah set new facility and meet records as well in the 800 meters. She posted a winning time of 2:06.25.
Kara Grant also ran well in the 800, finishing sixth in 2:14.12.
In the field events, freshmen
Kylis Gilmore and
Destiny Hooks both cleared a season-best height of 9 feet, 7.25 inches. Throwers
Ameya Williams and
Arieana Parker also made strong showings. Williams posted a top throw of 40-4 in the shot put, and Parker had a best heave of 55-1.5 in the weight throw. Both marks are the second-best of the season for the pair.
NSU is off this weekend before setting its sights on the 2020 MEAC Indoor Track Championship, which runs Feb. 27-29 in Landover, Maryland.
