NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State University senior guard
Jermaine Bishop was named Thursday to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division I Academic All-District 3 Men's Basketball Team, the organization announced.
The 2019-20 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, II and III and the NAIA.
Student-athletes are broken down by geographic districts. Bishop earned selection in District 3, which encompasses schools in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.
Bishop maintains a 3.51 GPA and is majoring in mass communications. He ranks fifth in the MEAC in scoring, at 14.6 points per game. He is also second in the conference in 3-pointers made (77) and fourth in 3-point percentage (38.9) for the first-place Spartans.
He becomes the fourth NSU student-athlete in the last four years, and the fifth in the last six years, to earn a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District team in their respective sport. He is the first Spartan basketball student-athlete to do so during that time.
Bishop was joined on the District 3 team by Seth Adelsperger of Belmont, Amidou Bamba of Charlotte, Aaron Carver of Old Dominion, and Onno Steger of Western Carolina. Those five will advance with the other all-district winners to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced between March 9-12.
