CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team fell in their second match of the season 7-0, against the University of Virginia on Thursday afternoon at the Boar's Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers are now 7-4 and ranked #37 in the country, while the Spartans fall to 0-2.
The Spartan pair of
Andres Alcaraz and
Vini Da Silva gave UVA's Matthew Lord and Carl Soderlund a run for their money in the #1 doubles, but ultimately fell in a close 6-4 match.
Agustin Carrizo and
Ignacio Guevel also had a tight game in #2 doubles spot, with UVA's RJ Fresen and William Woodall coming away with a 6-3 victory.
Da Silva took on Soderlund in the #1 singles, with Soderlund earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Alcaraz was topped 6-4, 6-1 to Woodall in the #2 singles, while Carrizo fell 6-2, 6-2 to UVA's Ammar Alhaqbani in the #3 singles.
Igacio Guevel competed in the #4 singles, coming short against Fresen 6-3, 6-1. At the #5 singles it was freshman
Ibrahim Abbas making his collegiate debut. Abbas ultimately falling 6-0, 6-1 to UVA's Ethan Moszkowski.
Anderson Brickhouse rounded out the Spartans six spots, dropping a 6-0, 6-0 match to Jerome Romualdez.
Both the men and women tennis teams of Norfolk State head to Longwood for matches at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
