NORFOLK, Va. – For the second time this season, and the second in three weeks, Norfolk State guard Tyrese Jenkins was named the MEAC Rookie of the Week. The conference office announced the weekly honors on Tuesday afternoon.

Jenkins scored in double figures off the bench in both of NSU's games this weekend. He averaged 12.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting a combined 8-of-13 from the floor, 4-of-8 from deep.

He had 13 points in just 12 minutes of action on Saturday in the Spartans' loss to North Carolina A&T. He shot 4-of-6 from the field, 2-of-4 from 3-point range, and 3-of-4 from the free throw line with three rebounds.

Then on Monday, the Richmond native played in a career-high 27 minutes, scoring 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting in a setback at North Carolina Central. He again shot 2-of-4 from deep and made both of his free throw attempts. Jenkins also added two rebounds, his first two career blocks, and one assist.

He also won the award on Jan. 21. For the season, he is averaging 3.8 points and 2.1 rebounds per game, having scored in double figures in three of his last five games.

The Spartans return to the court on Saturday when they host Delaware State at 6:30 p.m. at Joseph Echols Hall.
