WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team dropped their opening match of the season against William & Mary 7-0 at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center on Friday evening.
Andres Alcaraz and
Vini Da Silva made up the No. 1 doubles pair for NSU against the Tribes' Brendan Volk and George Davis. Volk and Davis took the match 6-1.
Agustin Carrizo and
Ignacio Guevel competed in the No. 2 doubles for the Spartans, falling 6-2 to W&M's Joseph Brailovsky and Ruo Chen. The Tribe would take the point awarded towards the match for doubles play.
Vini Di Silva was in the No. 1 spot for NSU in singles play, in a 6-1, 6-1 loss to W&M's No. 1 Joseph Brailovsky.
Andres Alcaraz made it a difficult match for the Tribe's Finbar Alcott, coming short in a closely contested 6-4, 6-3 match.
Agustin Carrizo was also able to take some games in his match, ultimately falling 6-2, 6-3 to George Davis.
Ignacio Guevel dropped his match to Ruo Chen, 6-0, 6-0. Ruo Chen defeated
Anderson Brickhouse 6-0, 6-0.
The men's tennis team is back in action against Virginia in Charlottesville on Feb. 27 at 4:30 p.m.
