HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team swept the Savannah State Tigers 7-0 at the Spring Tennis Fest Tournament on Tuesday evening, giving the Spartans their first win of the season.
The Spartans' No. 1 doubles pair of
Zoe Fraser and
Bruna Goncalves defeated the Tigers' Bria Brembry and Maiya Broughton 6-0, while the No. 2 pair of
Paula Fortuno and
Joyce Fields also won a 6-0 match over Carlissa Stewart and Taityana Pittman. The Spartans didn't lose a single game during doubles play.
The No. 1-4 spots didn't lose a single game during singles play either. Fortuno defeated Brembry 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles, while Fraser won 6-0, 6-0 over Broughton in the No. 2 spot. Goncalves and Fields both had 6-0, 6-0 wins as well, in the No. 3 and 4 singles respectively.
Siliah Burke rounded out the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win over the Tigers' Pittman.
NSU's women's tennis continues the Spring Tennis Fest tomorrow against Saint Louis University with a 4 p.m. match.
