BALTIMORE, Md. – The Norfolk State bowling team began its 2020-21 season on Saturday at the CSU Lady Eagle Invitational at AMF Woodlawn Lanes. The Spartans defeated host Coppin State as they finished 1-3 on the day.
Sunday's Baker action was cancelled due to weather that was forecast to impact the Mid-Atlantic Region.
NSU pulled out an 857-807 win over the Eagles in traditional play in its second match of the season. Junior
Crystal Brewer rolled a 211 to spark the victory over Coppin State. She also had a 202 in the first match of the day, part of a 185.4 averages in five games, including a bye.
No. 8 North Carolina A&T topped the Spartans 964-890 in that opening match. NSU also succumbed to No. 17 Delaware State, 920-769, and No. 12 Mount St. Mary's by an 878-774 margin before closing out Saturday with the bye.
Sophomore
Chanel Staton rolled a 193 during the bye to average 174.4 in all five games. Senior
McKayla Lang posted a 163.4 average, while junior
Dieonjonai Haupt and sophomore
Megan Wheat also competed in all five games.
N.C. A&T, DSU and Mount St. Mary's all went 3-1 to lead the tournament.
The Spartans will take part in the James Brown Invitational from Feb. 12-14 at AMF Country Club Lanes, hosted by Morgan State.
