NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State's
Colby Byrd won the Spartans' fifth MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Week honor of the season, and his second such award, the conference announced Monday.
Byrd, NSU's starting center, graded out at 94 percent on his assignments and had four knockdown blocks. He helped block for an offense which amassed 400 total yards and 42 points in their fourth straight win, a 42-14 triumph over Virginia University of Lynchburg. That was NSU's second straight game rolling up 400+ yards and 40+ points.
Byrd did not allow a sack Saturday. NSU rushed for 178 yards and passed for 222 yards against VUL in a contest which was shortened to 20 minutes in the second half by the coaches.
This marks the fifth straight game in which NSU has won the league's weekly award for offensive linemen. Byrd also won the honor after the Elizabeth City State game. Left guard
