VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Je'Shawn Walker and
Evans Cheruiyot posted wins for the Norfolk State men's track and field team as the Spartans opened the 2021-22 indoor season at the KMS Opener at the Virginia Beach Sports Center on Sunday.
Walker won the mile in a time of 4 minutes, 29.64 seconds. Cheruiyot, meanwhile, led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 3,000 meters. He won with a time of 8:59.98, just ahed of
Meshack Kipchirchir (9:01.48).
Isa Suleiman was third in 9:03.58.
Senior
Lelei Too was fifth in 9:16.05.
NSU used the meet as a chance for its distance runners, coming off a championship cross country season, to get one race in prior to the holiday break. The rest of the Spartan track team opens its season at the Gamecock Opener Jan. 14-15 in Columbia, S.C.
