Grant, Koech Double Up With Wins Saturday at Kenneth Giles NSU Invitational

| By:
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Kiara Grant and Fridah Koech both posted their second victories of the weekend on Saturday as the NSU women's track team concluded its lone home meet of indoor season at the Kenneth Giles NSU Invitational at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

Grant followed up her Friday win in the 60 meters by capturing the 200 meters on Saturday. She clocked a season-best time of 23.68 seconds. Teammate DaJah Parker-Love also won her heat, placing second behind only Grant with her own season-best time of 23.90 seconds.

Koech, who won the 3,000 meters Friday, made it a weekend sweep of the distance events by winning the 5,000 meters Saturday. Her winning time was 18:38.49, her best of the season. Like Friday, she was followed in second place by teammate Faith Jemutai (18:40.51).

NSU also got a runner-up finish Saturday from Kara Grant in the mile (5:15.50) and from Tiara Simms in the shot put (season-best throw of 40-7.5).

Grant will compete next month at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships in Arkansas. With no MEAC Indoor championship this year, the rest of the Spartans will begin preparations for the outdoor season in April.

"Our distance runners did a nice job this weekend. They look ready to continue that momentum into outdoor season," Giles said. "In the sprints, DaJah is really coming along. It's a shame we don't have a conference meet next week because I think she was poised to do something great. For Kiara, it was just another couple of days at the office and we're looking forward to seeing what she'll do at Nationals next month."
