LYNCHBURG, Va. – Senior Kiara Grant and sophomore Kara Grant (no relation) both posted victories in their respective races Saturday to lead the way for the Spartan women's track and field team at the Brant Tolsma Invitational hosted by Liberty University.

Kiara Grant capped her stellar week by winning the 200 meters in a season-best 23.90 seconds. Five days earlier, she won the 60 and was runner-up in the 200 at the Virginia Beach Invitational.

NSU actually went 1-2 in the 200 meters on Saturday, as DaJah Parker-Love was runner-up in a season-best 24.39 seconds.

Kara Grant posted a convincing win in the 1,000 meters. She crossed the line in 3:04.73, nearly five seconds ahead of her closest competition.

"Kara got a much-needed a confidence booster today with that win," NSU Director of Track & Field Kenneth Giles said. "I was also happy for DaJah, who ran well in her premier event coming off an injury."

Freshman Indya Richards also recorded a top-five finish on the track. She finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.74 seconds.

In the field, junior Arieana Parker placed seventh in the weight throw (52-7.5) and classmate Tiara Simms notched a season-best in the shot put (40-3.25) on the way to 15th place.

The Spartans host the Kenneth Giles NSU Invitational next Friday and Saturday at the new Virginia Beach Sports Center.

Said Giles: "This was a final tuneup for us before out final home meet of indoor season. It will be fireworks and NSU track and field at its finest."
