Kerris Cameron were honored by the conference office on Tuesday with a pair of weekly awards as NSU continued to pile up the honors. Greene was named MEAC Pitcher of the Week, and Cameron took home the MEAC Co-Rookie of the Week award.
Greene pitched in all four games over the weekend as NSU took three of four from Howard in a MEAC series at the NSU Softball Field. She allowed just one unearned run and three hits in 9.2 innings of work with five strikeouts, winning the pitcher of the week award for the second time this season. Cameron, meanwhile, hit 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored.
A native of Hayes, Virginia, Greene earned the win in relief in game 1 on Saturday, allowing an unearned run on two hits in one inning of work. She picked up the victory after NSU hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh.
She pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless relief in game 2, giving up just one hit along the way. She also pitched 2.0 innings in each of Sunday's games, striking out a combined three that day while earning the save in the second contest, a 6-3 Spartan victory.
Cameron hit 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a run scored in Sunday's game 1 win over HU, 6-0. She also hit 1-for-3 with a run scored in game 2 that day. A native of Longview, Texas, she pinch ran in the seventh in Saturday's walk-off win, scoring when junior
Gabby Vaughan ended the contest on a grand slam.
Cameron shared this week's award with Alyxx Estrada of North Carolina A&T. Norfolk State has now won seven weekly awards this year, including four pitcher of the week awards, two player of the week honors, and Cameron's rookie award this week.
The Spartans (10-12, 3-5 MEAC) head to North Carolina A&T this weekend for a four-game, non-conference series at the Aggie Softball Complex. Saturday's doubleheader starts at 1 p.m., and Sunday's twinbill begins at noon.
