NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State baseball team has earned the No. 1 seed from the Northern Division in this week's MEAC Baseball Championship, which the Spartans will host at Marty L. Miller Field Thursday through Saturday.
This marks the fifth time in the past six full seasons that NSU (22-26 overall, 18-10 MEAC) has earned the top spot in its division. The Spartans, who won three of four from Delaware State over the weekend, also finished with the most conference wins of any team in the MEAC.
This week's tournament features the top two teams from each division in a double-elimination format. Thursday's games begin at noon with the top seed from the MEAC South, North Carolina Central (25-18, 17-11) against Delaware State (15-26, 13-18), the No. 2 seed from the North. At 3:30 p.m., NSU takes on the No. 2 seed from the South, Florida A&M (21-32, 15-13).
Friday's action consists of three games and gets underway at noon with the winners of Thursday's two matchups. The second game pits the losers of Thursday's two games at 3:30 p.m., and Friday's 7 p.m. matchup will include the loser of the day's first game against the winner of the second.
Saturday's championship round begins at noon and will be broadcast live on FloSports. If the undefeated team loses that game, a second winner-take-all game will follow.
Tickets are $10 per day or $25 for a three-day tournament pass. Ticket must be purchased online at
NSUSpartansTickets.com. Based on COVID-19 protocols that recently took effect, Marty L. Miller Field can allow a 50 percent capacity for fans at the championships.
This will mark the seventh time NSU has hosted the MEAC Baseball Championship, following stints from 2006-08 and 2012-14.
