Spartans Fall 3-0 to Towson on Final Day of Tiger Invitational

TOWSON, Md. – Host Towson hit .426 to remain unbeaten with a 3-0 win over Norfolk State Saturday afternoon in the Spartans' final match of the weekend at the Tiger Invitational. Towson by set scores of 25-14, 25-11 and 25-23.

The Tigers recorded 49 kills against just six errors. Lydia Wiers and Nina Cajic both tallied 12 kills with no errors and Morgan Wilson added 11 kills.

Rachel Williams led NSU (3-5) with seven kills while Gracie Teeter and Taylor Eichelberger finished with six apiece.

Wiers had four kills in a 9-1 run that helped Towson pull away midway through set one.

Towson (12-0) won 10 of the first 12 points in the second set on the way to a 2-0 lead. The Spartans made the Tiger earn it in set three, however. NSU hit .341 with 18 kills in the final set and held leads of 17-15 (after kills by Eichelberger and Teeter) and 19-16 (after a service ace by Siera Jones). But Towson battled back and eventually won three of the final four points in the set to claim the win.

Paola Matos added five kills while Nicole Rodriguez led the Spartans with 14 digs.

Outside hitter Shonte Seale was named to the all-tournament team for her performance over the weekend, which included 29 kills in three matches.

The Spartans are back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Quest for the Crown tournament hosted by Old Dominion.
