NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State dropped its final match in the Quest for the Crown Tournament hosted by Old Dominion on Saturday, as the host Monarchs topped the Spartans 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-21).
Shonte Seale paced NSU (4-7) with 11 kills, while all-tournament team selection
Rachel Williams had nine with no attack errors.
ODU scored the first three points of the opening set and never trailed in taking a 1-0 lead. The Monarch hit .361 in the set. The Spartans were then held to a .000 attack percentage in the second set as ODU opened up a 2-0 lead.
NSU battled back in set 3. The Spartans led by as many as three points, at 14-11, after a kill by Seale. Seale's final kill of the match put NSU ahead 20-19, but the Monarchs closed the match with a 6-1 run, including a pair of Hailey Duncan kills, to finish off their win.
Nicole Rodriguez led the Spartans with 13 digs, while Williams had 11.
Caris Cross notched 24 assists.
Duncan and Myah Conway led the Monarchs with 11 kills apiece.
The Spartans now turn their sights to MEAC play, which begins with a 6 p.m. Friday night match at Maryland Eastern Shore.
