Caris Cross and senior
Nicole Rodriguez all picked up honors Monday.
Williams was selected MEAC Player of the Week for the first time in her career. She tallied 40 kills (3.33 per set) and 41 digs (3.42 per set) in NSU's three matches at the Quest for the Crown tournament hosted by Old Dominion. Williams, who hit .254 for the week, tallied career highs of 20 kills and 20 digs in a five-set win over Radford on Friday. The Spartans rallied from a 2-0 deficit in that one to notch their first-ever win over the Highlanders.
Cross was named both MEAC Rookie and Setter of the Week on Monday. She registered 113 assists in the three matches, an average of 9.42 per set. Cross handed out a career-high 52 assists in the Radford win, the seventh-most assists in a match in NSU history. She also finished the tournament with 22 digs and five total blocks. This is her second Rookie of the Week nod this year and first time winning the setter honor. Cross leads the MEAC with 8.46 assists per set this year.
Rodriguez, the team's libero, was named Defensive Specialist of the Week after amassing 59 digs (4.92 per set) in the three matches at ODU. Rodriguez posted 23 digs against both Buffalo and Radford, then added 13 against Old Dominion. Rodriguez also chipped in with 12 assists for the week to pick up her second career weekly award. Rodriguez currently ranks third in the conference in digs, with 4.80 per set.
The Spartans open MEAC play this weekend with a 6 p.m. match Friday at Maryland Eastern Shore.
