Barnes Breaks Another School Record for NSU Men at South Carolina

| By:
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Trequan Barnes broke a 12-year old school record in the 300 meters to pace the NSU men's track and field team over the weekend at the South Carolina Invitational.

Barnes clocked a time of 32.96 seconds in the 300 meters. He was the top collegiate finisher behind a pair of professional athletes. Barnes' time eclipsed Sean Holston's previous school standard of 33.36, set in 2010.

Barnes is now the indoor school record holder in the 300, 400 and 500-meter events.

Barnes also ran a leg on the Spartans' third-place 4x400 relay team. He was joined by Savien Hayes, Dazon Harrison and Jeremiah Zellander in clocking a time of 3:12.08.

In other sprints, Anthony Franklin was runner-up in the 200 meters in a season-best 21.43 and Harrison was sixth in the 400 in 48.42, also a season-best.

The Spartans were led in the field by a pair of long jumpers. Joshua Peterson was runner-up in the long jump with a mark of 23 feet, 4.75 inches and Isaac Haywood finished third with a PR of 23-4.

The Spartans compete at the Virginia Beach Sports Center next weekend for the first time this season as part of the East Coast Invitational.
