NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State sophomore standout
Gidion Sigei collected his second consecutive MEAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week award on Wednesday, the conference announced.
Sigei bettered his own season-best 8K time and the top time in the MEAC this year when he posted a clocking of 23:50.2 last weekend at the Panorama Farms Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia. He placed 23
rd out of nearly 200 runners in a meet which included many regionally ranked programs.
That performance came on the heels of Sigei's 23:51.1 that he posted two weeks prior in winning the Paul Short Run. Prior to that performance, no Spartan had broken 24 minutes for an 8K since 2005.
Sigei and the Spartans are off this week before competing at the 2022 MEAC Championships on Oct. 29 in Smyrna, Delaware.
