NORFOLK, Va. – After stellar performances at the HU Classic last weekend, redshirt-senior Joana Vallejo and junior Imani Moore have been named the MEAC Pitcher of the Week and MEAC Player of the Week, respectively. This marks the second week in a row to start the season that a Spartan pitcher has won the award with junior Alexis Robinson winning the award last week.
Vallejo pitched her way to the award after going 1-0 on the weekend. She totaled seven strikeouts, one more than her two previous appearances combined and allowed no earned runs in 6.2 innings pitched in the NSU win over Central Connecticut State on Saturday. She held opposing batters to a .208 hitting percentage in the game.
Moore, an All-MEAC preseason selection, had eight hits in 14 at bats over the four games. She finished with a .571 hitting percentage due to five singles, two doubles, and a triple. She also slugged her way to a .857 % that calculates power hits. She had three hits in each of the Spartans two games against St. Bonaventure, with her two doubles and triple coming in the 10-1 run-rule win to open the HU Classic.
NSU returns to campus this weekend and hosts a series of games as part of the Battle at the Bay weekend with games against Wagner, Youngstown State, and Penn.
