Norfolk, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team lost its home opener against Longwood 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex.
Federico Rebecchini earned the Spartans' lone point for the second straight matchup.
Rebecchini defeated Longwood graduate student Rosen Naydenov 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, his second victory at the position putting him at 2-0 for the season. The match lasted nearly two hours, with neither player making mistakes throughout many long rallies.
The Spartans couldn't nab a game in any of the other three singles matches, losing No. 5 and No. 6 singles by default. Longwood took the doubles point by default as well.
The loss brings NSU to 0-2 on the season. The Spartans now have over a week to prepare for their next competition, facing Hampton at home on Friday, Mar. 11, a 3 p.m. matchup.
