DURHAM, N.C. – Arieana Parker broke the Norfolk State women's school record in the hammer throw to lead the Spartans over the weekend at the Duke Invitational.
Parker smashed Kiara Howell's six-year old mark of 147 feet, 7 inches by nearly 12 feet. Parker's best mark was 159-0, placing her 19
th in a deep field of competitors.
The Spartan women picked up a total of three top-10 finishes at the meet.
Malika Prider placed sixth in the 400 meters in a season-best time of 54.23 seconds. She also teamed with
Alyssa Thompson-Rowe,
Indya Richards and
De'Niya Gravely to finish sixth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 45.80 seconds. That is the second-best time in the MEAC so far this year.
Tynniesia Wilson had NSU's other top-10 finish over the weekend, coming in eighth in the high jump with a top clearance of 5-3.
Richards also had a strong meet in her individual events. She was 12
th in the 100 meter hurdles with a season-best 14.23 seconds. She also long jumped 18-7, an outdoor PR, to place 14
th. Teammate
Shirelle Linzy also PR'ed in the event with a top leap of 17-7.
The Spartans will compete in their own Norfolk State Invitational this Friday and Saturday at Dick Price Stadium.
