| By:
NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women picked up three first-place finishes in field events during their own Norfolk State Invitational track meet over the weekend at Dick Price Stadium.

Tynniesia Wilson set a new PR in winning the high jump, Indya Richards leaped a season best to win the long jump and Leslie Young led a 1-2 Spartan finish atop the javelin standings to highlight a strong day for the Spartans in the field.

Wilson cleared 5 feet, 4.5 inches, the top height in the MEAC this year, to win the high jump. Teammate Shonte Seale was fourth with a season-best of her own, 5-2.25, which also ranks among the top five in the conference this season.

Richards topped the long jump field with a best effort of 19-0.75. She would later post a PR in the 100-meter hurdles as well, 14.16, to take third in that event.

Young won the javelin with a top throw of 115-1. Seale, in her second time competing in the javelin, posted a PR of 112-7 to take second behind her teammate.

Also in the field, Ariena Parker placed third in the hammer (157-1), D'Nysha Brightful cleared 10-0 to place fourth in the pole vault and De'Niya Gravely took fourth in the triple jump with a best attempt of 38 feet.

Fridah Koech picked up the Spartans' lone win on the track. She crossed the line first in the 5,000 meters in 19:07.66, nearly a minute ahead of the field.

Other top-five finishes were turned in by Kara Grant, which posted a runner-up finish in the 800 in 2:16.37; Malika Pride was fourth in the 400 meters (55.1) and Zion Smith placed fifth in the 100m hurdles in a season-best 14.47.

In addition, Gravely completed her busy day with PRs in the 100m (12:06, sixth place) and 200m (24.38, ninth). Shirelle Linzy also clocked a PR in the 100m (12.18, tied for eighth).

The Spartans will compete at both the Virginia Challenge and Morgan State Legacy Meets next weekend.
