CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – A slew of personal bests and a new school record were among the highlights for the Norfolk State women's track and field team on Sunday at the Virginia Grand Prix.
In the Spartans' last regular-season meet,
Arieana Parker topped her own hammer throw school record. Her best mark was 159 feet, 1 inch, topping her own mark from last month's Duke Invitational. She placed seventh overall at U.Va. Sunday.
It was a strong day all around for the throwers.
Leslie Young posted top-10 finishes in all four of her events and set personal records in two. In the shot put, her best throw traveled 44-0.75, a new personal best and good for fourth place. She also PRed in the discus (134-4) and placed ninth, was third in the javelin (112-2) and finished 10
th in the hammer (137-5).

Shonte Seale, who was runner-up with a top throw of 112-5, just one inch off her PR.
Indya Richards also had a strong showing Sunday. She placed second in the long jump with a mark of 18-11.75. Her teammates,
Dahja Price (17-9.5) and
Shirelle Linzy (17-6.75), also set personal bests in placing fifth and sixth, respectively.
Richards also led a quartet of Spartans who ran well in the 110 hurdles. Richards matcher her best time of 14.16 to finish fourth. Alyssa Thompson-Rowe PRed with a time of 14.28 to finish fifth, while
Zion Smith clocked a season-best 14.29 to take sixth. Linzy also posted a personal-best of 14.39 to place seventh.
Elsewhere on the track,
Malika Pride was fifth in both the 200 (24.56) and 400 (54.52) and
De'Niya Gravely was runner-up in the 100 meters( 12.07).
Next up for the Spartans is the MEAC Outdoor Championships, which run May 12-14 at Dick Price Stadium.
