Pride Caps Spartan Career at NCAA East Prelims

| By:
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Norfolk State senior sprinter Malika Pride concluded her stellar career on Thursday afternoon in the first round of the 2022 NCAA East Preliminary Round meet hosted by the University of Indiana at Haugh Track & Field Complex.

Pride, the bronze medalist in the MEAC 400-meter dash earlier this month, placed fifth in her heat and 37th overall out of 44 competitors at the regional meet. She clocked a time of 54.04 seconds. Only the top 12 advance to next round.

Pride competed for NSU for parts of five seasons. She capped her career with six individual MEAC medals, three silver and three bronze, and three relay medals – one of each color. Pride was also a three-time NCAA regional qualifier in the 400 (2019, '21, '22).

Isaac Haywood is the last Spartan still to compete at the NCAA East Prelims. The sophomore triple jumper is slated to compete starting at 6 p.m. Friday.
