NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State baseball standout Jacob Council has been selected to participate in the second annual HBCU All-Star Game this Friday, June 3 at Truist Park, home of the defending world champion Atlanta Braves.
Council joins stars from other Division I and Division II HBCUs at this week's game, which begins at 7:30 p.m. He will play for Team Marquis Grissom, which will be coached by the former Florida A&M and MLB star of the same name.
Council earned All-MEAC second-team and MEAC All-Tournament honors as a junior this year. He batted a team-best .346 with 10 doubles, four home runs and 33 runs batted in.
The all-star game will be held in collaboration with the Henry "Hank" Louis Aaron Fund. In January of 2021, the Atlanta Braves established The Henry Louis Aaron Fund, under the banner of the Atlanta Braves Foundation, after Henry's passing. The fund was created to continue to support Henry Aaron's life-long passion to increase minority participation in baseball on the field, in baseball's business operations, in careers at minor and major league level, and in the front offices of clubs across Major League Baseball.
Other activities surrounding the game include a free youth clinic and home run derby on Thursday.
