NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State freshman
Sydney McCree has been named MEAC Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. The recognition comes after McCree's standout performances against Hampton, The Citadel, Tennessee, and New Hampshire last week.
Â
The first-year setter posted career highs in assists (39), digs (10), and service aces (4) in Wednesday's five-set loss to the Pirates, adding two kills on six attempts. McCree's precise passing helped the Spartans post a .204 hitting percentage, their best mark of the season.
Â
It didn't take long for McCree to build on the Hampton performance, setting new career-bests with 15 digs against The Citadel and five kills against New Hampshire over the weekend. She notched her second and third double-doubles of the season against the Volunteers and Wildcats on Saturday.
Â
Across the Spartans' four matches last week, McCree totaled 105 assists, 41 digs, 14 kills, eight service aces, and four blocks. She currently ranks third in the conference with 6.58 assists per set.
