VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Mercyline Kimaiyo and
Kara Grant highlighted the Norfolk State women's track and field team's outing at the VCU Indoor Invitational with first and second place finishes, respectively, in the 3000 meter.
Kimaiyo won the race with a time of 10:32.14, while Grant followed closely behind with a personal best of 10:39.38.
Leslie Young excelled in both of her events on Sunday, notching a second and third place finish. A 57-foot, seven-inch toss secured runner-up in the weighted throw, before she came just one quarter of an inch short from a personal best in the shot put (44-0.5).
Dnyshe Brightful and
Destiny Hooks shared second place honors in the pole vault, both clearing heights of nine feet, 5.25 inches.
Indya Richards also notched a runner-up recognition in the long jump, registering an 18-foot, five-inch leap.
