Spartans Close Regular Season with Home Matches vs. Howard, Hampton

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's volleyball team is back at home, closing out its regular season slate with a pair of matchups at Gill Gymnasium.
 
The Spartans (8-12, 7-6 MEAC) host Howard on Friday at 6 p.m. for Senior Night, before facing Hampton at 12 p.m. on Monday for the Battle of the Bay.

Norfolk State Notes
 
Norfolk State dropped both of its matches last weekend in Baltimore, Md. The Spartans lost to Coppin State 3-1 last Friday, before falling 3-0 at Morgan State on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Spartans are led by freshman outside hitter Gabrielle Gilbert, who has taken the MEAC by storm this year. She's averaging 3.62 kills per set, the second best rate in the conference.
 
Norfolk State will recognize two special members of the program for Senior Day on Friday night: Shonte Seale and Adlene Jideofor.
 
Howard Notes
 
Howard has established itself as one of the top programs in the MEAC, coming into Friday's match with a 10-3 conference record. The Bison have won two straight matches, sweeping Morgan State 3-0 and handing Coppin State its first loss of conference play 3-2.
 
The Bison are led by the reigning MEAC Player of the Year, Rya McKinnon. McKinnon leads the conference with 3.68 kills per set, a .32 improvement over her freshman year in 2022.
 
Hampton Notes
 
Hampton has struggled during the 2023 season, amassing an 0-18 record, 0-16 in CAA play.
 
The Pirates are led by Kristine Teivane, averaging 2.38 kills per set. Madison Clark follows closely behind with 2.16 kills per set.
